Welcome to Sandbar Bed and Breakfast on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. Our quaint yellow cottage faces the Atlantic Ocean at the 10.5 milepost in the heart of Nags Head village, within easy walking distance to the beach.
We offer three spacious guest rooms decorated in coastal casual style, making us the perfect accommodation for individuals, couples and families who want to enjoy a relaxing beach getaway. We do accept well-behaved pets. Rooms are deep cleaned after every pet visit to ensure a comfortable environment for all guests.
Miles of soft sand and gorgeous ocean wait just across the beach road from our cottage, conveniently positioned between two beach accesses. No other spot compares when watching the sun rise. Also within walking distance are famous area restaurants and unique gift shops. Local attractions are only a short drive away. Whether you’re staying for a night or a week, Sandbar Bed and Breakfast offers a comfortable place to rest your feet after a day of shopping, sightseeing or fun at the beach.
Innkeeper, Cara Parker
At the Sandbar we delight in providing each guest with a personalized experience.... from planning your stay to staying out of the way, we tailor our service to your needs. Don’t hesitate to ask about special requests like birthday cakes, flowers, champagne, or a packed picnic. The innkeeper is available for information about things to do and will assist you with dinner reservations, golf tee times or water sport excursions. Be sure to mention any health or dietary issues that might require special attention. We look forward to making Nags Head your favorite vacation spot!
Cara manages the Sandbar, though she does not live on-site. Her husband Michael helps out as well, sometimes putting out breakfast and evening refreshments. Both are often accompanied by their dog, Dexter, who comes to visit Princess.
About the Inn
The house is a charming three level beach cottage built in new Nags Head style by owner, Mike McVearry, in 2005. The house became Sandbar Bed & Breakfast early in 2008. The owner and his dog, Princess, live on the third level in private quarters with separate entrance, though they travel often. Princess is quite friendly and likes to visit with guests during the day. Please note that we do our best to make appropriate accommodations for guests with an allergy or fear of dogs.
Mike and Princess

This pair can usually be found out on the boat. Ask Cara or Mike about rates for a guided eco-tour on the waters of the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge if you would like to join them. You will witness local flora and fauna, see the old moonshine community of Buffalo City and spend a relaxing day on reflecting swamp waters. Sounds like an oxymoron so you'll have to see it to believe it!
Beach House Rental
Mike also built and owns the house directly behind the inn, which is available for weekly rental from Saturday to Saturday. See the link to Beach House Rental for more information or to contact his son, Andy McVearry about rates and availability. Or click here to go directly to its web site.
