Sandbar Bed & Breakfast
2508 S. Virginia Dare Trail Nags Head, North Carolina 27959
Our first floor includes a separate living room and kitchen area, both available for exclusive use by our guests during their stay. You can enjoy a good book, watch television or eat snacks at your leisure out of the sun. We keep a small library of paperbacks to read and games to play.
The full-size refrigerator, microwave, toaster, blender and coffee pot are also available for your convenience. Many guests stock up on essentials at the grocery store for convenience during their stay. The inn is fully air conditioned in the summer months and ceiling fans operate in each room of the house.
Step out of the living room onto a large patio that opens to a private gated pool accessible to all guests. We provide a charcoal grill and deck furniture for your outdoor enjoyment. An outdoor shower and access to our stash of beach chairs and water toys is yours to use as well. We can lend you a fishing pole or beach umbrella if you need one. At the Sandbar, we operate ‘mi casa, su casa’ – OUR HOME IS YOUR HOME!
The Sandbar is a relaxed inviting beach house where all are welcome for fun in the sun. In the summer time, the owner’s family who live locally, often pop by to visit for an afternoon in the pool. Mike McVearry also operates by the philosophy that “It’s Always 5 O’clock Somewhere!” He enjoys cocktails on his deck to music many afternoons when the work day is over. Guests are welcome to enjoy the company and the tunes.
Please notice the picture below of the view from the second floor deck. While we are located just across the street from the Atlantic Ocean, and indeed you can usually hear the waves from the inn, the view itself is obstructed by the sand dunes. This is the classic geography of Nags Head and serves to protect the area from erosion and flooding during storms. Many guests who had hoped for an ocean view were not disappointed upon arrival at the inn! Our proximity to the ocean is ideal.
About the Inn
The house is a charming three level beach cottage built in new Nags Head style by owner, Mike McVearry, in 2005. The owner and his dog, Jessie, live on the third level in private quarters with separate entrance, though they travel often. Jessie is quite friendly and likes to visit with guests during the day.
Mike and Jessie
They both enjoy backwater boating. Ask Mike about rates for a guided eco-tour on the waters of the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge if you would like to join them. You will witness local flora and fauna, see the old moonshine community of Buffalo City and spend a relaxing day on reflecting swamp waters. Sounds like an oxymoron so you’ll have to see it to believe it!
Beach House Rental
Mike also built and owns two houses directly behind the inn, which are available for weekly rental from Saturday to Saturday and Friday to Friday. Go to its website www.obxsandbar.com or contact property manager, Beata Faulkner at 252-489-1868 about rates and availability.
Something Fishy Gift Shop
Located next to the inn is Mike’s shop and long-time shopping feature on the Outer Banks, Something Fishy. Inn guests receive a 10% discount on purchases. Be sure to drop by during your stay or visit Something Fishy online store www.somethingfishygifts.com.
